How to get server hardware information from command line

Recently for one of the servers, Microsoft Support asked for a report of the Server Hardware Configuration. Bound by the processes in place, the DBA team is not authorized run any tools related to the Operating System. This report was provided by the Systems team later on.

There are many ways to get this information, the easiest approach is to use the msinfo32 command line utility. This executable is located at C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedMSInfo. Here is the command which will export the Server Hardware configuration details to a text file.

cd "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedMSInfo"

msinfo32 /report C:MyServerHWInfo.txt

The GUI mode for this utility can be invoked from Run –> msinfo32
