The table reported Consistency Errors

Last week, I mentioned that one of the data file reported I/O errors. The database size is ~10 TB. Since business could not afford to lock the database while running CHECKDB, it was decided to run DBCC CHECKTABLE against the table referred to in the offset error message. After a lot tussle while getting the Change Control approved, DBCC CHECKTABLE was run against that table at last.

The output of the CHECKTABLE did not have any good news for the DBA. Here is the output.

Msg 8909, Sev 16: Table error: Object ID 0, index ID 0, page ID (37:47208464). The PageId in the page header = (0:0). [SQLSTATE 42000]
Msg 8909, Sev 16: Table error: Object ID 0, index ID 0, page ID (37:47208465). The PageId in the page header = (0:0). [SQLSTATE 42000]
Msg 8909, Sev 16: Table error: Object ID 0, index ID 0, page ID (37:47208466). The PageId in the page header = (0:0). [SQLSTATE 42000]
Msg 8928, Sev 16: Object ID 1711345161, index ID 0: Page (37:47208464) could not be processed. See other errors for details. [SQLSTATE 42000]
Msg 8928, Sev 16: Object ID 1711345161, index ID 0: Page (37:47208465) could not be processed. See other errors for details. [SQLSTATE 42000]
Msg 8928, Sev 16: Object ID 1711345161, index ID 0: Page (37:47208466) could not be processed. See other errors for details. [SQLSTATE 42000]
Msg 8954, Sev 16: CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 3 consistency errors not associated with any single object. [SQLSTATE 01000]
Msg 8990, Sev 16: CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 3 consistency errors in table 'TableName' (object ID 1711345161). [SQLSTATE 01000]
Msg 8958, Sev 16: repair_allow_data_loss is the minimum repair level for the errors found by DBCC CHECKTABLE (TableName). [SQLSTATE 01000]

It reported 3 consistency errors not associated with any single object. In the span of one week, the disk seems to have gone more bad. This error has spread across more tables, at least more than one table. Now we are left with no choice, need to run DBCC CHECKDB against that database.

This will for sure take more than 48 hours to complete. To get this done there will be a lot of meetings, e-mails flying. Preparing myself for a tough week ahead!
