Happy Birthday SQL DBA Diaries!

Happy Birthday!

Last year on the same day, I started a new journey. On my wedding anniversary I gifted myself with a blog. SQL DBA Diaries was born!

What a journey is has been! I had started this blog with an intention to write about some of the interesting challenges that I come across as a SQL Server DBA. May be the number of issues that I faced were too many, since I was able to put together 221 posts in 365 days! The response to my rumblings was overwhelming as my blog witness 80000+ page views in the last one year!

My blog has been my window to the amazing SQL Community. With each comment and retweet, I got to interact with many really cool people. My intention was to share what I already knew with each post. But I ended up learning more than what I wanted to share!

While I am celebrating the first birthday of my blog in full glory, I am all determined to make it bigger and better in the coming years.

SQL Meme Monday | 11 words or less

I had just finished reading across this post by Thomas LaRock (b | t). In this Post Thomas started a cool concept called Monday Meme – “Write a SQL blog post in 11 words or less”. After a while I saw Amit Banerjee (b | t) making his contribution to Monday Meme. In his post Amit had tagged me. Accepted the tagging Amit 😉 Here is my entry

Just share the knowledge. Let the reader decide its usefulness.

All I have to say is that the SQL Community rocks!

A special Friday and the Microsoft Community Contributor Award!

While I was casually checking my personal emails today, I was pleasantly surprised to see an email with this subject.

Your online community contributions have been recognized by Microsoft

and the award goes to.....

This was an email from Microsoft informing me that I was awarded the Microsoft Community Contributor Award for the year 2011! I would be lieing if I say that I am not excited about this. I am proud of this as this will be the first badge on my blog 😉

The important reason why I love to respond to questions in all these forums is that I get to learn more than what I actually contribute. It helps me keep updated with the latest in SQL Server and learn from the responses of some of the best in Industry. If my responses answers someone’s question, it is icing on the cake! Similarly I blog about the things that I learned or about how I fixed some issues with an intention that it might help someone, somewhere. I will not gain if I keep my knowledge to myself. If I share it, for sure I will understand it better and someone else in the Community will be benefited from it.

I accept this award as a pat on my back to contribute more and more to the wondeful SQL Server Community. Thank you Microsoft!

You will see more and more of Pradeep Adiga in 2011. It is a belated announcement of one of my New Year resolutions!

Shortlisted for SQServerPedia Awards

Just a while ago, I came to know that voting for the first ever SQLServerPedia Awards is now open. I could see my name in the list of nominees in two categories. In the Management and Automation Category, my article Mr.DBA what is the status of Rebuild Index? is listed. In the New to SQLServerPedia Category as well my name is listed. Felt good see my blog which is relatively new listed there among others.

There are 9 categories in which some of the best articles in SQLServerPedia will be awarded this year. What are you waiting for? Cast your vote and choose the best (it can be me as well 😉 )in this year’s awards.

Best Innovator award!

This month seems to be the month of recognition and reward for me. Earlier this month I was inducted in to the Hall of Fame. And today I was handed over the Best Innovator Award for the year 2010 by my employer. From SQL Server technology mine was the only nomination. This is the consecutive second annual award for me. Last October I was awarded the Best Subject Matter Expert (SME).

I wouldn’t have received this award without my team’s contribution. Any problem management, automation I just initiate it. The documentation, processing, implementation is taken care by those talented group of people. Guys, this award is dedicated to you!

Since no one asked me to say a few words after receiving the award, I am saying it here in my own backyard 😉
